The legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker
Introduction
Zelda has always been one of Nintendo's main selling point other than Mario of course. It has taken adventure games to higher places with its puzzles and countless quests that can be carried out. As usual you take the role of Link, not the original one but a new different young fellow.
There is once again chaos on the land and you must bring peace to the seas. This game despite its tiny flaws still makes all fans of the series as happy as they could ever be by bringing amazingly detailed environments, enemies with amazingly good AI and puzzles that will have you thinking for days.
Gameplay
Controls are tight and it is not at all different in any major way to the previous titles on the Nintendo 64, so all those fans would feel right at home with the control scheme. The B button is used to attack, and used to roll and climb up objects, C buttons are to change the camera angles and to enable free look and the other buttons are for equipping items for use for example the WindWaker and boomerang.
Despite the games visible style and non stop action the storyline seems over done. It all doesn't feel right like the other Zelda titles. You first go here then you have to return there just to get one thing done. Some of the fans might love this type of style but for me it was a bit to tedious and stressful. Also at some points I was just like "Wtf," because they had my mind racing at what happened to this main character and everything. I even had to resort to asking some hardcore fans to explain it to me. This is the problem with the game, you have to know a bit of the storyline or you will be so confused you cant even continue.
This game, althought suffering from a storyline failure has so much deep details it will have you wanting to finish off puzzles just to see the dialogue from characters. That is what made the Zelda titles so sucessful, their puzzles and riddles. It captivated you until you completed it or until your progressed. That is what tied me into The Legend of Zelda games, it's amazing level and dungeon design and also it's mysteries.
As you might be guessing there must be a ton of weapons you get to use as the new hero. Well the number of cool gadgets you can get is by far the high point in the game. From the old school bombs to the godlike instrument: the wind waker, this game has it all.
Besides all of this exceptional qualities in this title, the boss battles are the true pillar in the game. Their design is amazing and they are not too hard to beat yet are not too easy to defeat at the same time. This game was created for gamers to have fun and not be to stressed out just to finish a certain dungeon or boss. This is by far one of the greatest third person Legend of Zelda titles to hit consoles. It lives up to the standard that Nintendo has created for one of their greatest characters of all time.
Graphics
The art style is amazing, at first you might be mad that Link looks like a cartoon. But trust me when you start to move around and roll on different surfaces your jaw will drop. The water effects to me is the greatest. When you take it to the open sea your eyes will be glued to the animations. Also during battle everything looks so clean and well done. Truly one of the greatest looking games to hit the Gamecube this year.
Sound
Funny comical sounds make this game even better than it already is. What really stood out of the crowd was during a battle when you attack an enemy the sound is synchronized with the slash, truly innovative and cool in my book. Never before have I played a game with this amount of sound detail put into it. They really did a great engineering job in this section.
Overall
It's hard to find a good adventure game out there without problems with the camera or controls. But Zelda, always being the one to be out of the box delivers an outstanding experience for gamers everywhere. Whether you be a fan or just a casual gamer this is one title you must have if you own a Gamecube.
