Introduction
The world has been filled with blocks, they came from inside the earth what is there to do. Well that’s where you come in; you play as the block busting maniac Mr. Driller himself. The game has the same elements as the previous installments, simplistic controls, simple story, yet it can be rather addictive.
Gameplay
What to say about the gameplay, it is rather simple. You only need 1 button and the D-Pad on the GBA to play. You move around avoiding being crushed by blocks that you may accidentally fall atop you using either the “A” or “B” button to dig through the blocks. The odd block is harder than the rest making it harder to dig through and leaves you open to falling blocks, while others may just vanish without warning. Blocks of the same color may connect together at any point in time, where if there are 4 connected they will destroy each other.
You also will need to keep an ever so watchful eye on your air tank as it will continuously deplete requiring you to locate air canisters in between rocks. The further you’ve gone down the quicker the tank will deplete.
Graphics
Mr. Driller 2 has many vibrant colors throughout the game. The blocks change patterns as well as color the further you dig downward. The blocks also seem to fall and vanish at random intervals making the area around you change drastically.
Sound
Although this area is lacking it doesn’t entirely affect your gameplay making the game “Lucky”. The music is extremely repetitive or at least it seems to be as only one or 2 notes change for each track.
Overall
Mr. Driller 2 is worthy game for your GBA if you’re running low on time and need a quick fix for gaming before you head out for the day. I don’t recommend playing it a whole lot since there isn’t much for replay ability, but if you have a small budget and enjoy simple games you may want take this into consideration.
