Introduction You think crack is addicting? You should give hexic a try. Alright I must admit it isn't all that addictive once you actually have good games to play. Hexic was created by Alexey Pajitnov, the same man behind the magic known as Tetris. The entire concept of the game is to rotate hexagonal blocks to create triangular patterns to score points. There are, of course, power blocks which can have devastating results.
Gameplay Hexic has both the hardcore and casual gamer components in that you can plan your moves turns in advance or you can just as easily wing it getting massive combos by accident. The controls are simplistic, you merely need to move the in game cursor around the screen using "A" or "X" to rotate three blocks at a time in one of two directions. Rotating three pieces of the same color eliminates them from the game and depending on the game type causes more blocks to fall from the top of the screen. The game types include time attack, survival and marathon. Time Attack sets you up with a 1:00 minute timer which you refill by eliminating blocks and moving to the next level each level consists of a different amount of combos which add time to your count down. Survival mode involves playing 50 rounds of screen devastation. The moment you run out of moves the remaining blocks are locked down making them immobile until the next round and then the rest of the screen refills with the various blocks. Marathon mode is just a basic game where you play until you either give up or are forced to lose by a bomb piece. Graphics There isn't much for visuals since you play with different colored blocks the entire time. An option to change the outside skin was not included so you are stuck with the metallic look for the entire duration of gameplay. The blocks can be changed to have patterns or just the plain colors you begin the game with. Sound The sound could have been thought out a little more as it gets annoying after playing for awhile, especially if you stay up late playing. I would have liked to been able to listen to the music that is already on the 360 or even in the tray while I was playing. Overall Hexic is quite the addicting game if you have the time to spend playing it. Since any Xbox 360 with the hard drive comes with the game when you buy it, I don't really have to recommend it since chances are you've already played it. The game doesn't offer much for replay value, but you can at least squeeze out the few GamerScore it has to offer.
