Assassins Creed

July 11, 2007 - Assassin's creed also shown at Microsoft's press conference was looking amazing and many new features were showcased during their presentation. The graphics and physics look realistic although there were some glitches that were present during the showing, although Ubisoft is sure to fix those before launch.

The opening scene showcased Jerusalem at the time of the Third Crusade. Altair was standing atop a tower with the many citizens of the city wandering about below. His objectives ... kill a slave trader. Each and every building that was being shown is interactive.

Getting things started Altair dives off the tower, flipping over and landing in a cart of hay below, seemingly unharmed. He then proceeds into the town where they show off how the many people amongst the crowd can be interacted with. Each can play a part in your success where some will help giving you information tidbits while others only cause problems in your quest.

Many of the citizens were walking about carrying jars atop their heads, bumping into them causes them to drop the jar smashing it on the ground. Keeping in mind, if you continually bump into all the citizens it will draw attention to yourself and you will not have much freedom to get your objective completed. Beggars will run up and bother you for money, with a quick grab, the beggar was tossed aside and the player took off running.

Next up he neared a group of guards blocking the path needed to be taken to reach the slave trader. Instead of pushing his way through, Altair was directed down the next side street, nimbly climbing up a wall to a roof top where a guard stands his ground. Slipping behind the guard, the player knocks him off the edge of the building into the middle of the street below. It draws everyone's attention allowing you to slip past the guards.

Leading into the next building the door slams shut behind Altair indicating a trap has been set. A balcony above shows the slave trader glaring fiendishly and commands his minions to attack.

Next up they show off the battle system, where the camera takes on a Prince of Persia styled view point and with your 4 weapons, including short sword and throwing knives, you can use combos and counter-attacks to take advantage of the character animations to pull off the most satisfying kills. Each of the enemies being attacked was highlighted in a blue color to keep you informed on which of the enemies you are actually attacking.

After all the enemies have been dispatched and you are nearing on his position the trader takes to running where the chase AI kicks in. Pointing out that no two chases will be the same, Jade, informs everyone that the AI will be unique for each target Altair is sent after. In this case, the trader is cocky so if he gets to far ahead he will stop and taunt you and if you catch up he will throw obstacles in your path such as civilians.

To avoid all the confusion Altair jumps into all the beams above head jumping and swinging nimbly across them, he catches up grabbing the trader, throwing him to the ground and finishing the job with a quick slash of his short sword.

Assassin's Creed has been announced as being released in November on the Xbox 360. We will aim to gain more information once E3 starts.
